ABOUT

Mark Sweppenheiser
Owner

I have had a passion for whitetails and hunting since I was twelve years old.  I currently own a 40-acre parcel in a heavily hunted area of central Michigan.  My property was previously owned by a family that was notorious for poaching and were caught by the DNR in one of the state’s largest poaching cases.  This happened a decade ago, but the effects were still evident.  In fact, the first year I owned the property, I saw a total of 7 deer during archery, gun, and muzzleloader season.  That was not a typo, 7 deer total.  The property lacked both food and cover, but I actually had rented the house on the property a few years prior and knew its potential.

The first year I planted food plots, trees, shrubs, switchgrass, tall grass prairie, created hinge cut bedding areas, and installed water holes.  The second year, opening morning of bow season I was perched in a hedge row stand overlooking my food plots and saw 14 deer, 10 does and 4 young bucks.

Fast forward a couple more years and I now have the opportunity to harvest multiple mature deer on an annual basis.  I started with a solid plan for the entire property and started to implement the most limiting factors for my property.  It truly is amazing how quickly you start to grow your own deer.  Remember my property was ruined by poachers, I had nanny does that would not step foot onto my property – I’d never seen anything like it.  Lacking food and cover, I needed to give new deer a reason to move onto my property and stay.  I passed young bucks and the dramatic change in the herd happened in year three.

If you would like to capitalize on the potential of your hunting property please contact me.  I have a unique background in forestry and planning, the key to having great hunting is great habitat.  Finally, I treat people right and you will always get your value out of me.

Thank you for taking the time, God Bless.
